Following a committee meeting held last week, the Cardiff Combination have decided to introduce a group stage to the Sam Cornish Cup.
The main aim of this change is to extend the season which if the weather holds could currently see a March finish.
Much like the Combined Division 1 and 2 Group formats, there will be 3 groups of 6 teams*.
Using the Stage 1 groups as the seeding, the top two finishers in Groups A-C will be allocated into Groups 1-3.
These teams were:
1. Cardiff Hibernian
2. Cardiff Jets
3. Clwb Caerdydd
4. Fairwater 2nds
5. Radyr Rangers
6. The Cardiff Sueno
The remaining 12 teams* will then be drawn randomly into each group to make the three groups of 6 teams. These teams are:
7. Aberystwyth Exiles 2nds
8. Avenue Hotspur 2nds
9. Cardiff Central
10. Cathays Cons 2nds
11. Cathays United
12. CSKA Sophia Gardens
13. Eastern Tigers
14. Ely Athletic*
15. Glamorgan 2nds
16. Grange Allstars
17. Llanishen Wanderers
18. Pontprennau Pumas
Each team will play each other once on a shared basis.
The top teams in each group will make the Semi-Final draw, with the best runner-up joining them.
*if Ely Athletic fail to resume their league fixtures, they will not be included in the group, resulting in one group of 5.
This will give each team a minimum of 4 or 5 extra games to take the season until the end of April when we hope to be completed.
